There still is no cure for fibromyalgia even though it affects thousands of people. Treatments exist only for temporary relief. Symptoms are pain in your muscles which also causes pain in your joints leading to stiffness, problems sleeping and fatigue. You will find that Chinese Acupuncture is one of the best medicines for these symptoms.
Acupuncture has minimal side effects and patients who have the procedure usually leave the doctor’s office feeling much better or at least no worse off than they were before. The needles are used to stimulate the body. They are the thickness of a hair so you may feel a slight pinch as they are inserted, but when the procedure is done properly it is both safe and painless. That is why it is so important to find a professional acupuncturist.
Patients with fibromyalgia receive a specific treatment for their condition. Not only will the doctor use needles but, sometimes, cupping and warming techniques. Cupping is a form of suction. Small heated cups, usually glass or bamboo, are placed on the skin to begin suction. They are usually left on the body about 15 minutes, sometimes longer. Today, some doctors also may use a suctioning pump to do this process.
Research shows that cupping has a lot of real benefits and is not just an old wive’s tale. It has been shown to stimulate the blood vessels in the affected areas. This procedure seems to draw out the old blood settling in a bruise or area of pain and make room for new blood and a fresh supply of oxygen. Since it is creating a better environment for the area having pain tissues begin to repair themselves right away. Cupping also seems to open the lungs, thus releasing the toxins through pores in your body and through your breathing. The procedure also draws cold and dampness from your system so it is believed that you obtain a healthier body.
Cupping is not for everyone. If you are pregnant you should be very careful. Cupping should not be done where open sores or wounds exist or where there is an excess of hair. When you first begin cupping you will notice bruising. This should go away in about a week.
Acupuncture is something that may help with fibromyalgia but there is little proof of this except for patients opinions. Some patients believe the procedure works in relieving the pain and therefore is the only relief. Before trying to find an acupuncturist you may want to talk to your family doctor and get their opinion. They should be able to giveyou all the information you will need, not only to find the best acupuncturist, but also about the procedure itself.

Hi Donna,
Great article about acupuncture and cupping! Ive had both done and i loved the results! I’ve been a huge fan of this type of therapy for more than 15 years and still get it done regularly for asthma and allergies. More recently though, i have discovered EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) which is the coolest thing since sliced bread. It involves acupressure points as well. Check it out http://www.emofree.com/newcomer.htm#Newcomers ! You can even download a free manual. I think you will love it.
Have a great day!
